Death Doula 201 gives you the skills, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding to guide others through this sacred transition as a certified Death Doula.
Death Doula 201 merges ancient wisdom with contemporary knowledge, delving deep into our modern experience of death and preparing you to provide optimal support to individuals on their profound journey. Lauren and Erin create a container in which each student is able to explore their own relationship to death and dying, learn techniques and practices, understand cultural and philosophical perspectives, and approach the concepts of conscious living and conscious dying. Death Doula 201 is a supportive, inclusive space where all folx are welcome, and is open to all levels of experience.

In our nearly 3 years of providing community and professional death education at Deathwives (after 16+ combined years of independent practice), we’ve witnessed the demand for these hallowed places to dissect the mystery of death and all her trimmings broadening and widening before our eyes. It’s no wonder why. The pandemic has brought a higher death rate than any of us have seen before. We now cannot avoid the ultimacy of death, but we can create practices that serve the dying and their families in expanding ways. We can step closer, in service.
Prerequisite
We will email you the replay of prerequisite core course Death Doula 101 in the days before class begins. All students should complete Death Doula 101, or watch the recording as a refresher, before attending Death Doula this 201 course.
Deathwives Certificate of Proficiency
As a human being, you are qualified to become a Death Doula. As a graduate of Death Doula 201 with a Deathwives Certificate of Proficiency, you may step into your calling grounded in the wisdom, experience, and style of Deathwives deathwork.
Democratized Death Work
No official training or accreditation is needed to practice as a Death Doula, and we at Deathwives deeply respect the democratic and accessible nature of this work. Death Doula 201 is not designed to help you pass a test or exam - it’s crafted specifically to provide thorough preparation for those entering the Death Doula field professionally. Together, we take a step closer to the end of life experience, dig in to the technical, cultural, and personal aspects of this sacred work, and study an intensive breakdown of all components of a death doula job.
