Facing Pet Loss

Although most of our classes focus on human loss, we often find ourselves weeping over the loss of our beloved animals. Our pets are family and friends alike, and with lifespans that are a fraction of ours, we are bound to lose them. For children especially, pet loss is commonly the first experience with death and dying.

While we will never be able to diminish the sorrow of losing our animals—because sorrow is made of love—we can come together in community to navigate this difficult time, offer direction and support, and learn to convert what is scary into that which is sacred.
