I am honored to have shared this experience with these amazing women.”

The magic of Death Doula Lab

What happens over our 7-hours together?

We’ll join in circle, share stories and wisdom, and guide you through the many realms death and dying. Our hands-on methodical approach builds skills and community, and helps you develop the compassionate ability to be with death. We move through immersive learning, holistic after-death body care, body shrouding (with live participatory demonstrations), and home funerals, including their history and how to safely and legally host them. We then move deeply into the art and practice of crafting ceremony. Lauren and Erin will guide you as you take part in solo and group exercises and explorations. You’ll build an inner foundation as a death doula while also connecting other emerging deathworkers. We will practice together. We will share. We will laugh. At the end of it all, you will be able to bring your fullest self and the highest level of service to the bedside or the funeral, while supporting a client or caring for someone you love, as a Deathwives-certified Death Doula.

Also, we eat really good food ;)

Why Rockaway Beach, Oregon?

We’ve always felt drawn to the mysterious shores of the Pacific Northwest. There’s a certain magic here that transcends time. As death doulas, the liminal space where the land meets the sea mirrors the sacred threshold we navigate with those we serve. That feels really beautiful to us.

Why is it called Death Doula Lab—isn’t it a training?

This is more than just a training—it’s a transformation. ‘Lab’ has the Medieval Latin root laboratorium, meaning "a place for labor or work," and we ask our students to be prepared to put in the work needed to emerge as leaders in this field. Death Doula Lab is a place where practitioners can hone their skills amidst the raw beauty of nature. We often reflect on our own beginnings, wishing events like this had been available to us — places where mentorship, collective wisdom, radical honesty, the art of holding space, and the service of witnessing grief all come together into a single, powerful workshop. It's a vision we've longed to see realized. Now, in the serene setting of Rockaway Beach, Oregon, our dream has become a reality.

Is this only for women? Who can attend?

We warmly encourage all folx to attend Death Doula Lab. The journey of the deathworker is deeply human and ageless, transcending gender identities and backgrounds. We’ve initiated teenagers and senior citizens into this work. Death doulaship is a career where your uniqueness—every facet of who you are—adds value to your work, connecting you with those who need your compassionate presence the most. So, please, bring ALL of yourself. This inclusive space is for you.

About Our

Plant Medicine Module

We’re adding a special module to Death Doula Lab this time: a licensed Psilocybin Therapist (and Deathschool alumn) will be joining us to explore plant medicine in deathcare. Across ancient traditions and many cultures, plants have played an indispensable role in guiding individuals through death, dying, and grief. With the recent legalization (in some places) of powerful plant medicines, we think it’s important to educate ourselves on how we might be able to integrate these tools within our work to serve our clients in deeper ways. Can plants provide a sacred bridge between the physical and spiritual realms? Help individuals integrate grief and fear? Aid in new ways throughout the dying process? We’ll talk about these questions are more. At Deathwives, we hold deep reverence for the wisdom of the natural world, cherishing our Mother Earth and all that she provides, and we’re excited to explore the realms of potential for plant medicines to act as powerful allies in our work as death doulas.

“I had enrolled in another death doula program.  Long story short, I dropped out early after spending A LOT of money on it due to a lack of ethics, integrity, and boundaries. I was very disappointed and feeling somewhat lost. I don't remember exactly how I came across your content, but decided to give it another go because of the work feeling important. I'm so very happy that I did.  The content far exceeded my expectations, and I walked away feeling more prepared than ever to feel more comfortable jumping in. Additionally, I just appreciate the humble and professional (yet not too serious) vibe you both exude; it was refreshing and inspiring.  Thank you both for being in service to this work and for making it accessible to others.
